Welcome Steve

Salsarian since 18 February 2019

Salsa is thrilled to welcome Steve Worley to the Salsa team. Steve is Salsa’s latest Technical Lead/Tech Architect. As a tech lead, he’ll be liaising between business and the development team, making sure projects and people are well-resourced. He’ll also do some development work during busy periods (something he’s looking forward to!).

Steve lives on the Gold Coast and will mostly be working remotely, but comes down to Salsa’s office for one week every month.

About Steve

Steve has held a variety of jobs in the web development space. He started out working for a smaller web agency on the Gold Coast, building sites in open source content management systems (CMSs) including Drupal, Wordpress and Joomla. He spent two years there before moving to the Flight Centre as a senior Drupal developer. Initially Steve was responsible for Flight Centre’s migration from WebSphere to Drupal 7. Post-migration he focused on ongoing platform support and maintenance, performing deep dives into the technical side of things to make sure everything was running smoothly. Steve worked at Flight Centre for three and a half years and then moved to Acquia.

At Acquia, Steve was a senior technical architect. During his time with Acquia (also three and a half years), he worked across a variety of different areas. He ran client workshops, focusing on mapping business requirements to development tasks. He also managed development teams and ran training workshops in the Asia-Pacific region, to upskill in-house development teams in Drupal. Steve also worked in the GovCMS space, working with government agencies who were coming across to the GovCMS platform.

Steve loves anything and everything tech-related, and when he’s not working he’s often researching and playing with new tech.

Why Salsa?

Steve liked Salsa’s vision and culture. “I was really attracted to the passion that everyone has here. Everyone really wants to do a good job. I also shared Alfred’s vision for open source and seeing how far you can get that in government — I think that’s really interesting. And I like the fact that everyone’s open, upfront and honest. That’s definitely part of the Salsa culture.”
